Verda Jo Painter

Verda Jo Painter, 88, of Kingsport, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 28, 2015.

Mrs. Painter was born in Harlan County, Kentucky on July 2, 1927. She was a graduate of Evarts High School and Chillicothe Business School, Chillicothe, Missouri. She worked for Oak Ridge National Laboratory and later retired from Avon's Corportate Office in Delaware after 42 years of service.

Mrs. Painter was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Fred L. Painter; and her parents, Byrd and Sarah Turner.

She is survived by her sisters, Ora Faye Potts and Margaret Bessie Turner, Louisville, Kentucky; nieces, Jo Ann Smith (Allan) of Kingsport, Margaret Jo Boyer of Louisville, Kentucky, Geni Stohler of Knoxville, Marty Hamby (James) of Atlanta; and Anne Carpenter (Billy) of Nashville; nephews, David (Pat) Painter of Knoxville, Joe (Kate) Painter of Charlestown, West Virginia, and Bill Overbay of Kingsport; great nephews, Jacob and Joseph Boyer of Louisville, Kentucky.

A special thanks to Preston Place and her dear friend, Lou Hawk.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 2 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow with Pastor Randy Lantz officiating.

A graveside service will follow at Zion Cemetery in Baileyton, Tennessee.
