Verna "Ma" Barnes

Verna "Ma" Barnes, 96, Fall Branch, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 16, 2018, following a lengthy illness. Verna was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Fall Branch.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J.W. "Shorty" Barnes; daughter, Jean McNeely; son, Coach Milton Barnes; her parents; and 3 brothers and 4 sisters.

Verna is survived by her daughter-in-law, Becky Barnes-Miller; 6 grandchildren, Stephanie Williams, Jay McNeely, Jeff McNeely, Jackie McNeely, Jennifer Hatley and Janice Walker; 7 great-grandchildren; 1 special great-granddaughter, Abbie Williams; 1 great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

A special thanks to Four Oaks Health Care Center for the loving care that they gave to Verna.

The family will receive friends on Friday, January 19, 2018 from 5-6:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Fall Branch. The funeral service will follow at 6:00 pm with Rev. Victor Wallace officiating.

The graveside service will be held on Saturday at 10:00 am at Logans Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jeff McNeely, Brandon McNeely, Jackie McNeely, Jay McNeely, David Williams and Gary Miller. Honorary pallbearers will be Bud Copas and John Nettles.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the First Baptist Church of Fall Branch, P.O. Box 82, Fall Branch, TN 37656, or to the Alzheimer's Association, 2020 Meadowview Parkway #100, Kingsport, TN 37660.
