Verna Cundiff Wayman, 91, of Kingsport, passed away Wednesday, February 21, 2007, at Wilcox Hall of Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following a brief illness.
She was born in Bagley, Iowa, and had lived in Kanawha, Iowa, Johnson City, TN, and Kingsport for the last 68 years. Her parents were John and Ruby Mae Cundiff.
Mrs. Wayman taught school following graduation from East Tennessee State Teachers College now East Tennessee State University. After marriage, she moved to Kingsport and became a mother and homemaker. She had many interests including art, home decorating, working in her flowers, gardening, church, youth scouts, sewing, bridge, camping, and traveling extensively on family outings, adventures, and vacations.
Her husband, Clyde Wayman, preceded her in death.
Surviving are her daughter, Judy Wayman and husband, Sam Robinson, Knoxville; a son, John Wayman, Anchorage, Alaska; and five grandchildren, John Wayman, Jr., Anjali Wayman, Josh Montgomery, Rachel Montgomery Apking, and Larkin Montgomery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at First Broad Street United Methodist Church. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the church with Rev. Jackson P. Weikel officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
