Victor B. Owens, Sr., 82, of Colonial Heights, went to be with the Lord at 6:30 p.m. Saturday evening December 27, 2008 following an extended illness.
He was a life-long resident of Sullivan County. Victor was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theatre of Operations on the USS Kalinin Bay.
Mr. Owens retired from United Cities Gas, having worked in various management positions. Victor co-founded the Cupboard Convenience Store in Colonial Heights. He was a member of Summerview Baptist Church and the Sinking Creek Masonic Lodge and the 32nd Degree Scottish Rite.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Cora Owens; two brothers, Daryl Owens and Ron N. Owens.
Surviving are his wife, Edith L. Owens, Kingsport; daughters, Demetrice Garst, Kingsport, and Kim Arnold, Gray, TN; sons, Victor Owens, Jr. and wife, Diana, Telford, TN, and Allen Owens and wife, Janelle, Kingsport; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Miriam E. Huff and husband, James, Blountville, and Vileta Bowery and husband, Carl, Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. Masonic services will be conducted at 7 p.m. by the Sinking Creek Masonic Lodge #575. Funeral services will follow with Pastor Hobart McGreary officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Charles DeWitt Byrd Post 3382 of the VFW.
Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.
