Virgie Vicars Gilman, 95, Kingsport, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Sunday morning July 15, 2007 in the loving arms of her daughters.
Mrs. Gilman was born June 11, 1912 in Scott County, Virginia. She lived in Coeburn , Virginia until 1954, having then moved to Kingsport.
She was employed by Sears and White?s Men?s Wear as a seamstress and was a member of Apostolic Lighthouse Church.
She was a devoted, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents Sherman and Eliza Jane Vicars; husband, James Garfield Gilman; Three Sisters, Mary Rice, Sally Sulfridge and Winnie Brummitt; Two Brothers, Alfred and Claude Vicars.
Surviving are three daughters, Jonelle Carter and husband Lee with whom she had made her home for the past three years, Nancy Moore and husband Hobert, Barbara Quillin and husband Cowell; five grandchildren, David Quillin and wife Mitzi, Jeff Quillin and wife Donna, Raymond Carter and wife Freda, Sandra Hammonds and husband Anthony and Lisa Lyons and husband Steve, nine great grandchildren and three step great grandchildren, very special friends, Georgia Fleming, Sharol and Rev. Herb Harrington and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7pm Monday at Apostolic Lighthouse Church, 145 Shipp Springs Rd. Kingsport, TN. and anytime at the home of Lee and Jonelle Carter.
Services will be conducted at 7pm Monday with Pastor Mike Vicars and Rev. Herb Harrington officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11am Tuesday at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:45am.
Pallbearers will be David and Jeff Quillin, Raymond Carter, Steve Lyons, Anthony Hammonds and Shannon Dingus.
