Virgie Harris Hobbs, 95, of Kingsport went to be with the Lord early Monday morning, September 17, 2007, following a brief illness.
She was born in Nickelsville, Virginia, but had resided in Kingsport since 1952. Virgie was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend and will be missed by all that knew her.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Glenn Hobbs, in 1977; a daughter, Thelma Jean Henderson in 1998; a grandson, Dwayne Shelton in 1996; her parents, Floyd ?F.C.? and Eliza Vicars Harris; two brothers, Leonard and Larlin Harris; and several nieces and nephews.
Surviving are one daughter, Louise Hobbs Jernigan, Kingsport; one son, Ernest Hobbs and wife, Clarice, Blountville, TN; seven grandchildren, Tammy and Eric Henard, Michael and Natalie Hobbs, Christy Jennings, Carey and Mark Skeens, Paula and Todd Broughton, Andy and Jenny Hobbs, and Sonya and Mark McCrary; fifteen great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, Paul Henderson; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Beulah Johnson.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Rev. Layton Bentley officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Holston View Cemetery.
Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.
