Virgil V. Yonts, Sr. 80, West Carters Valley Rd., Church Hill, TN, died on Friday, July 31, 2015 at Wexford House. He was born on August 4, 1934 in Letcher County, Kentucky. Virgil served in the United States Navy.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Pauline Skeens; father, Gabe Yonts; daughter, Stella Graham; 2 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; brother, Robert Yonts; and nephew, Slemp Skeens.
Virgil is survived by his wife, Wanda Yonts; sons, Wendell Yonts and wife, Kay, Mark Yonts, and Virgil Yonts, Jr., all of Church Hill; daughters, Cynthia Carter of Church Hill, Pauline Trent of Kingsport, and Wyhava Craft of Gate City; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Skeens of Kingsport; brother, Bill Yonts and wife, Beverly of Church Hill; step-daughter and caregiver for the past 2 years, Georgia Diane McMurray of Gate City; and step-sons, Scotty Ingle and wife, Tina, Alvin Ingle, and William Ingle, all of Kingsport.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 11:30 to 12:30 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The service will follow with Rev. Cecil Sturgill and Rev. Paul Manis officiating.
Burial will follow at Mountain Home National Cemetery in Mountain Home, TN, with Military Honors conducted by The American Legion, Posts 3/265.
