Virginia Ann Sturgill, age 83 of Kingsport, passed away on Sunday, January 6, 2019. Virginia Ann was born to the late Gordon Washington Roberson and Virginia Fugate Roberson on December 15, 1935. After the early death of her mother she was raised by her stepmother, Gladys Collier Roberson. She attended J. I. Burton High School, before attending Carson Newman College, where she majored in Home Economics. Soon after graduating from college she married the late Robert Oscar Sturgill, Jr. After teaching school for one year she dedicated her life to raising her three children. Her family was very important to her as well as her dear friends. She was a member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church where she volunteered as a receptionist for Kingsport Community Ministry Center (KCMC).
Virginia Ann is survived by her three children, Donald V. Sturgill and his wife Daphne, Philip R. Sturgill, and Patricia A. Burris and her husband, Kevin. She leaves behind seven grandchildren; Kim, Christine, John, Olivia, Chris, Grace, and Rachel. She is also survived by four great grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, January 12 at First Broad United Methodist Church with The Rev. Jack P. Weikel officiating. A reception will follow the service at the church.
