Virginia Wagner Booher

Virginia Wagner Booher, 92, Colonial Heights, died late Saturday morning September 6, 2008 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

Born in Bristol, VA, on May 19, 1916, to Auburn Keith and Mary Katheryn Ireson Wagner, Virginia was the second of ten children. She graduated from Holston High School and Virginia Intermont College and devoted her entire life to education for both herself and her students. As an elementary school teacher, she taught at Dickson, Cedar Grove and Colonial Heights schools.

She was an avid reader and continued in her love of learning and knowledge to the end of her life. Her many friends will remember her as a true, genteel Southern lady. Her frequent tea parties were among her greatest delights and stand as an example of her charm, grace, and hospitality. Yet, she was also strong, determined, and independent as evidenced by her ninety-two years, keen mind, and strong opinions on many subjects, including politics. She lived her life as a testament to her beliefs and faith in God as a faithful member of Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church where she participated in the Johnson Memorial Sunday School class and the Martha Circle.

In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by the husband she adored, Claude A. Booher; and her beloved brothers, Keith Wagner, Bill Wagner, and Donald Wagner.

The surviving family whom she loved dearly includes one sister, Mary Katheryn Sanders and husband, Howard Lee; five brothers, Harold Wagner and wife, Polly, Ralph Wagner and wife, Elizabeth, Joe Wagner and wife, Joyce, all of Blountville, Brooks Wagner and wife, Nellie, Bristol, and Gordon Wagner, Fort Worth, TX; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Additionally, she leaves her very special friends, Clarice Brown, Joy Culbertson, and Delores Collins; and her little furry friend, Gee Gee.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church. Services will be at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. J. Thomas Phillips officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Tri-Cities Memory Gardens.
