Virginia Ellen “Ginny” Snow entered her heavenly home on January 7, 2025 at Johnson City Medical Center. Ginny was born in Bristol, TN on April 13, 1947 to the late Joe and Ina Kate Yoakley Snow. She was a 1965 graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School and a 1969 graduate of ETSU with a degree in elementary education. Ginny began her teaching career in Sullivan County as a beloved first grade teacher at Temple Star Elementary School. When her mother, Ina Kate Snow retired from Colonial Heights Middle School, Ginny replaced her as a sixth-grade teacher. Both were revered for their excellence in teaching as well as their ability to bring out the best in their students. Many of the students became life-long friends.
After her retirement, Ginny continued a life of service to the community, mentoring and caring for her former students, and she often served as a volunteer reader and testing monitor in elementary schools. She was an active member of Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church, where she served in many leadership roles, along with Junior League of Kingsport, Big Brother/Big Sister and Friends of the Kingsport Archives.
Faith and family were at the center of Ginny’s life. She had a compassionate heart and never met a stranger. Full of fun and adventure, she was a great storyteller. Her infectious smile and laughter lit up the room. Ginny was a blessing to her many friends and family, and she was beloved “Aunt Ginny” to their children.
Ginny is survived by her sister, Ann Michels (and late husband, John Michels); nieces and nephews, Mike (Alice) Michels, Steve (Mary) Michels, Lela (Keith) Cooper, Sarah (Paul) Dunkel and their families; special cousins, Ellie (Steve) Saitta and Catherine (Bill) Coyne; along with many special friends and extended family members.
A memorial service celebrating Ginny’s life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ginny’s name to Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church at 213 Colonial Heights Road, Kingsport, TN 37663.
