Virginia (Nannie) Hudson Flanagan, 93 of Nickelsville, VA went home to be with her Lord Saturday, April 11, 2015 at the residence of her granddaughter, Melissa Skeen Salyer.
Born in Piney Flats, TN on August 5, 1921, a daughter of the late Roy and Melissa Jane Nickels Hudson, she has resided in this area her entire life. Mrs. Flanagan was a charter member of Homeland Baptist Church. She worked and retired from Tennessee Eastman Company following 28 years of service, having worked in the A-Y Division, Spinning Dept. and later retiring from the Lab. Virginia will be remembered as a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, sister and friend who enjoyed cooking, sewing, needle work and quilting.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Emory Lee Flanagan, 2009; brothers, Parks Hudson, Arthur Hudson and R.B. Hudson; sister, Thelma King (Piney Flats) and a nephew, Roy Neal (Blountville).
Survivors include one daughter, Linda Hudson Skeen (Nickelsville); two grandchildren: Melissa Skeen Salyer and husband, Perry (Nickelsville) and Tracy Skeen and wife, Tara Farmer Skeen (Memphis); four great-grandchildren: Amanda Salyer and Matthew Salyer (Nickelsville), Sydney Skeen and Graeson Skeen (Memphis); great-great-grandson: Bo Hudson Greene (Nickelsville); sisters-in-law: Eva Mae Hudson and Hazel Hudson (Piney Flats); several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special "Thank You" to caregivers: Lakie Hall and Delilla Horne.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, April 13, 2015 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown and other hours at the residence of Perry and Melissa Salyer.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m., Monday in the chapel with Pastor J.W. Depew officiating. Special music will be provided by Damon Depew.
Burial will follow graveside services at 11 a.m., Tuesday in East Lawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
Those attending committal services are asked to assemble at 10 a.m., Tuesday at the funeral home and then proceed to the cemetery.
