Virginia Lee Kelly, 88, of Kingsport passed away on Monday, January 10, 2011 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Virginia had a very special and close relationship with her mother; she was an animal lover, especially cats. She worked as the Treasurer of Heritage Federal Savings and Loan main office, and then retired from the Stone Drive branch as Vice President. Virginia had a service oriented heart, serving on the boards of the Salvation Army and Girls, Inc. She was awarded the key to the city of Kingsport for her numerous community contributions and Virginia Kelly Day was also designated on the city's calendar in her honor.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth and Claude L. Kelly; two brothers, Charles B. Kelly of Kingsport, Claude W. Kelly, Sr. of Kingsport; and sister, Christine Howze formally of Asheville, NC.
Survivors include her niece, Catherine Dowell and husband, Jim of Blountville; nephew, Claude W. Kelly, Jr. and wife, Kathy of Kingsport; grandniece, Kelly Moore and husband, Chris; great-grandnephews, Tyler and Jake Moore; special friends Pat Jessee and Hazel Addington.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, January 13, 2011 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. The service will begin at 7 with Jim Moore officiating.
The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Emeritus Assisted Living, Kingsport for their loving and tender care of Virginia in the past months and to the staff and doctors at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center, ICU Unit.
