Virginia Gilbert Mitchell, 80, formerly of Kingsport, died Thursday morning, December 23, 2010 at NHC Healthcare in Knoxville after an extended illness. Born in Lebanon, VA. she had resided in Kingsport most of her life. Virginia was a long time member of Glenwood Baptist Church. She loved to dance, loved music, and most of all loved her family. She had worked for Roses department store and Goody's department store for many years.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Kenneth Gilbert; second husband, Jay Mitchell; parents, Minnie and Paul Snead; and several brothers and sisters.
Survivors include two sons, Gerry Gilbert of Kingsport, Zan Gilbert and wife, Terri of Knoxville; one brother, Cecil Snead of South Carolina; one sister-in-law, Shirley Terry Stump of Bristol, VA.; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at Hamlett-Dobson, Kingsport. The service will begin at 6:30 p.m. with Pastor Charles Roberts officiating.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at East Lawn Memorial Park.
