Virginia R. Moore, 84, formerly of Kingsport and Loyall, KY, died Friday evening, August 14, 2009 at Brakebill Nursing Home in Knoxville, TN after an extended illness.
Born in Big Stone Gap, VA, where she was raised, she resided in Southwest Virginia, Eastern Kentucky, and East Tennessee. She was a homemaker and an avid bowler, having bowled in several area leagues.
Mrs. Moore was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church and a member of the American Legion Post #3/265 Women's Auxiliary in Loyall, KY.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Colonel S. Moore; parents, Robert and Vera Lawson; four sisters, Betty Carter, Bea Cloud, Phyllis Huff, and Monnie Boyd; and five brothers, Kyle Lawson, Everett Lawson, Bill Lawson, Milam Cloud, and Robert Lawson, Jr.
Surviving are her daughter, Shelia Hendricks and husband Wayne, Virginia Beach, VA; son, Colonel "Jerry" Moore and wife Margaret, Knoxville, TN; three grandchildren, Gerald Moore, John Moore, and Christopher Hendricks; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Hyson Barnett and husband Rufus, Imboden, VA; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. Services will follow at 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with Rev. Anthony Nunley officiating.
Entombment services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens in Big Stone Gap, VA. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery.
