Virginia Ruth Cannoy Murphy, 84, of Preston Place Assisted Living passed away Monday, January 26, 2009, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center. She was a lifelong resident of Kingsport.
Mrs. Murphy graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School, retired from AFG Glass Plant, and was a member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and aunt and will be deeply missed by her family and lifelong friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Robert and Bessie Cannoy; her husband, Brown Murphy; a son, Robert Murphy; a sister, Frances Cannoy; and five brothers, Joe Preston, Howard, R. C., Frank, and Harry Cannoy.
Surviving are a daughter-in-law, Julia Murphy of Knoxville; four grandchildren, Stephanie Manson and husband Paul of Knoxville, Charles Slagle and wife Monica of Clinton, TN, Christy Jones and husband Chris of Dandridge, TN, Justin Singleton of Williamsburg, Kentucky; nieces and nephews, Sharron Fraysier and husband Robert of Kingsport, Pamela Ward and husband Steven of Kingsport, Carolyn Jourden and husband Joe of Irving, Texas, Don Cannoy and wife Susan of Church Hill; four great-nieces; and one great-nephew.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Rev. Jack P. Weikel officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.
