Virginia Ruth Wilson Poe

Virginia Ruth Wilson Poe, 95, passed with the comfort of her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, December 28, 2016, at NHC Rehabilitation Center in Kingsport, TN with her daughter, Linda by her side. Mrs. Poe was born in Richlands, VA and graduated from Richlands High School. She then obtained a degree in Business Administration. Mrs. Poe worked at the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, DC. She married Roy W. Poe in 1946 at the Presbyterian Church of the Pilgrims in Washington.

They moved to New York where she worked at Underwood Corp. She and her husband moved to Kingsport in 1948 where they founded the Kingsport Camera Shop, which became Wells Camera Shop in 1970. Mrs. Poe volunteered for many years as a Pink Lady and Hostess at Holston Valley Medical Center, the Habitat Resale Store, and the Fun Fest office. She was an ambassador for Kingsport Convention and Business Bureau. Mrs. Poe and her husband traveled extensively by boat, airplane and RV. She loved growing flowers and served as president of Kingsport Home and Garden Club. She and her husband were charter members of Waverly Road Presbyterian Church. She was a Sunday School teacher and a longtime member of the Shepherds Bible Study. She loved people and was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother.

The family would like to thank Debbie Hubbard and her staff at NHC for the excellent care they provided for Mrs. Poe.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James & Esther Wilson; son, Dr. Randall R. Poe; brothers, Liston Arrowood, Paul, and James T. Wilson, Jr.; and sister, Helen Semones.

Cherishing her memory are her husband of 70 years, Roy W. Poe; daughter, Linda Martin and husband Dr. Tim Martin; brother, Ernest Wilson; daughter-in-law, Janice Poe; grandchildren, Andrew Martin and wife Allison, Dr. Kevin Martin and wife Amanda, Lindsay Martin Bipes and husband Ben, Kimberly Finnie, Jason Poe and wife Mallika, Ryan Poe, and Dr. Chris Poe and wife Misti; great-grandchildren, Lexie Martin, Brooke Martin, Jackson Martin, Cooper Martin, Hudson Bipes, Blake Finnie, Maquire Finnie, Tristan Poe and Issac Poe; and extended family.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, January 2, 2017 at Waverly Road Presbyterian Church with Rev. Collin Blair Adams officiating. An inurnment service will follow at the church columbarium. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.

Honorary pallbearers will be Andrew Martin, Dr. Kevin Martin, Ben Bipes, Jackson Martin, Cooper Martin and Hudson Bipes.
