W. T. ?Dude? Bales, 81, Kingsport, passed away Tuesday, August 28, 2007 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
He was a naval veteran of World War II and retired from the Naval Reserve. Born in Jefferson County, he moved to Kingsport in 1955. He was appointed a Tennessee State Trooper in 1948 and resigned in 1959. Mr. Bales retired from Tennessee Eastman Company in 1986.
He was a member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church and a member of the Crusade Sunday School Class. W.T. was also a member of the V.F.W., Cherokee Rod and Gun Club, The National Rifle Association, and a member of the Masonic Lodge for over fifty years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, W.F. and Lerlene Bales, brother, W.F. ?Pete? Bales, Jr., and a sister, Betty B. Blanton.
Surviving are his wife of forty-two years, Patsy B. Bales, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Barry T. and Aliceson Bales, Greeneville, TN; son, Anthony G. Bales, and daughter, Teresa E. Bales; both of Knoxville, TN; grandson, Marshall S. Bales, Greeneville, TN; brother, W. H. ?Bud? Bales, Jefferson City, TN; and sister, Doris B. French, Rome, GA.
The family will receive friends from 5-8:00 p.m. Thursday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home Kingsport.
Funeral services will be at 12:00 noon Friday at First Broad Street United Methodist Church with Rev. John Brewster and Dr. J. Spurgeon McCartt officiating.
Burial will follow at Andrew Johnson National Cemetery, Greeneville, TN with military rites by American Legion Post #3/265.
Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the R.O.M.E.O. Club.
