Walter D. Baskette, 91, of Fall Branch passed away Sunday, April 19, 2009 at Wexford House Nursing Home.
He resided his whole life on the Baskette farm and retired after 37 years at the Mead Paper Corporation in Kingsport. He enjoyed farming and his grandchildren. Walter was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and was very family oriented. He was a member of Lovelace Baptist Church and Johnson Masonic Lodge #274 F. & A.M. as a 32nd degree Mason for 54 years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, A.J. and Nelle Baskette; the mother of his children, Mary Teter Baskette; daughter, Mary Patricia Baskette; and grandson, John Orndoff.
Surviving are his wife, Lawanda Curtis Baskette, of the home; two daughters, Joyce Baskette McDermitt and Husband Ken, Martha B. Ollis, both of Kingsport; son Bill Baskette and wife Melissa, Fall Branch; two grandchildren, Carly and Will Baskette; sister, Norma Baskette Davick, and husband Kelly, Fall Branch; nephew Richard Bacon; special cousin, Zirkle Hensley.
Calling hours are 6-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Fall Branch Chapel of Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport or anytime at the home of the sister, Norma Davick.
Masonic Rites will be conducted by Johnson Lodge #274 F. & A.M. at 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Fall Branch Chapel preceding funeral services with Rev. Joe Wall and Rev. Allen Brummett officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Lovelace Baptist Church Cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
