Walter Clark

Walter "Valis" Clark, 72, had been a resident of Mount Carmel, Tennessee for many years. He slipped away peacefully to be with the Lord Tuesday, November 1, 2011.

Born May 21, 1939 in Floyd County Kentucky to Clyde and Cotella Reedy Clark, Valis had not lived in Kentucky since his youth but had always looked forward to and enjoyed spending the day in the area where he grew up.

Valis served a tour in the Navy and had worked as an over the road truck driver for many years. While living in South Ohio he was elected and served 2 ½ terms as Mayor. He attended Clark State in Springfield, Ohio and received his degree in law enforcement and served as an officer in South Solon. Later while living in Mount Sterling Ohio, he owned and operated Walt's Pastries. He also worked as an EMTA in Mount Sterling for several years.

He had a strong Christian faith, enjoyed listening to gospel music and reading and learning about the Lord. Valis had many years of enjoyment jumping out from behind doors trying to scare one of his six sisters. He enjoyed his family and the time he was able to spend with them.

Valis was preceded in death by his father, Clyde Clark, brother, Jack Allen Clark and sister, Emma Lou Clark Beckowitz.

Left to keep his memories alive are his mother, Cotella Reedy Clark; wife, Shirley Bise Clark; daughter, Kim Suttle and husband Austin; son, Clyde Clark and wife, Kelly; grandsons, Austin and Terry Suttle and Wil Clark; granddaughters, Breanna Suttle and Emma Clark; great-granddaughter, Ivelee Suttle; sisters, Anita Newman, Kathryn Cowles and husband, Michael, Faye Gardner and husband, Glen, Jean De Moss and husband, Wayne, Donna Garland and husband, Bob; brothers, Michael Clark and wife, Trish, brother in his heart, Dennis Mosley and wife, Cheri; many nieces and nephews, aunt, uncle and cousins that he enjoyed and loved.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, November 3, 2011 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson, Kingsport.
