Walter Roller Coats Jr

Walter Roller Coats, Jr., passed away Saturday, January 3, 2015, at the age of 91.

Born on March 26, 1923, in Kingsport, TN, he was the son of the late Walter Roller Coats, Sr., and Fannie Katherine (Bishop) Coats. He was a graduate of Sullivan High School and served three years in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, before returning to work for Tennessee Eastman Chemical Products. Walter trained in the Plastics Division as a Technical Service Representative, subsequently working in New England and the Chicago area from 1960 until his retirement in 1985. He was an active member of Saint Matthew United Methodist Church for several years.

In addition to his parents, Walter was preceded in death by his two brothers, Jack Calvin Coats and Paul Marsh Coats; his wife, Jeanie (Bickley) Coats; and his special friend, Naomi Addison Woods.

He is survived by his two daughters, Janice (Coats) LeFebvre of Amherst, MA, and Lynn Marie Greenstein of Carbondale, IL; his son, Donald Wayne Coats of Lothian, MD; two grandchildren, Jeffery James Lefebvre and Sean Paul Greenstein; and two great-grandchildren, Ethan Robert Lefebvre and Sidney Drew McCombs.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm on Friday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.

The funeral service will be at 11 am on Saturday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home Chapel, Kingsport, with Rev. Ray Amos, Jr. officiating.

The graveside service will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
