Wanda Brown Grills passed away Wednesday morning, June 29, 2011, at Asbury Place in Kingsport following an extended illness. She has now gone to join her late husband, Fred, and the Lord.
Born in Greene County; she moved to Kingsport in 1941. Wanda served on the Board of Directors of the American Cancer Society for 35 years. She was also a volunteer at the VA Hospital of Mountain Home for 45 yearsa"giving 500 hours in volunteer work. She served on the Board of Directors of the Kingsport Boys Club, and was the first lady to receive the Man and Boy Award from this group. She was an active member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church, having served as President of the U.M.W. Circles. Wanda was loved by all who knew her, and she loved to serve her community.
Wanda was preceded in death by her loving husband, Fred; her father and mother, Clifford and Lula Brown; a brother, James Brown of Kingston; and a sister, Helen Gammons.
Survivors include one daughter, Rebecca and husband John Grills; a granddaughter, Ashley Grills; great-grandson, Dayton McDavid; sisters, Margaret Kinser and husband Buddy of Greeneville; brothers, Billy Brown and wife Rebecca, Fred Brown and wife Patricia, John Brown and wife Shirleya"all of Greeneville; and sister-in-law, Sue Brown, of Kingston..
The family will receive friends from 1-2:30 pm Friday, July 1, 2011 at First Broad Street United Methodist Church in Kingsport. The service will begin at 2:30 pm with Rev. Mickey Rainwater and Rev. Jack P. Wiekel officiating.
Graveside services will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
