Wanda Junell Hensley, 87, formerly of Sullivan Gardens, died at Wexford House on January 6, 2012.
She was born in Baileyton, TN Greene County on December 25, 1924. She taught school in Greene County and also served as a cashier for a business firm in Greeneville until her marriage in 1949.
She transferred from Zion Methodist Church to Glen Alpine UMC and served as chairman of the Memorials Committee for 14 years. She served as Matron of the Eastern Star in the Fall Branch area and as president of the Sullivan High School PTA. Her hobbies included sewing and gardening.
She was preceded in death by her parents Oscar Kyle and Nellie Justis Bernard; and brother, Kyle.
She is survived by her husband, R. Zirkle Hensley, Kingsport; two sons, William K. "Bill" and wife, Debra "Debbie" Marie, Kure Beach, NC, Robert Z. "Bob" and wife, Terri Lynn, Destin FL; grandsons, William M. "Matt" and wife, Jenna, and Benjamin K. "Ben" Hensley; granddaughter Katherine Ann Hensley; great-granddaughter, Madison Iliana Hensley; sister, Laura Rowena Bernard of Baileyton, TN; sister-in-law, Blanche Dixon Bernard of Baileyton, TN; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 10, from 12 - 2 p.m. at Glen Alpine United Methodist Church with the funeral at 2 p.m. with Rev. Dale M. Gilbert officiating. Burial will follow at Tri-Cities Memory Gardens. Friends of the family will serve as pallbearers.
