Wanda Evans Kesterson

Wanda Evans Kesterson (88), a native of Kingsport, Tennessee, died at Health Care Center (Baysmont) at Asbury Place on March 11, 2015. As the wife of a dedicated, 50-Year Scout Master in the Sequoyah Council, Boy Scouts of America; Wanda helped shape the lives of many men who reside in Kingsport. She was a true Southern Woman, extremely creative, and well-read. Her many gifts were expressed through: gardening, knitting, quilting, cooking, and writing, as well as through teaching these gifts to others. She was an active member in the Garden Club, and a witty contributor in the "Happy Hookers". Her love of history led her to devote countless hours toward the Netherland Inn restoration. As an outcrop of this passion, she could be seen in historical dress riding atop floats in the 4th of July parades. Her many activities were cut short when she was found to have advanced dementia.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Levis Harris Evans and Paris Edgar Evans; her beloved husband, James Luther (Luke) Kesterson; her son, James Luther (Jimmy) Kesterson; her sister, Madge Eugenia Wolford; and her sister-in-law, Margaret Thorena Evans.

Surviving are her son, William Albert Kesterson and wife, Julie, Fairfax, VA.; her brother, Walter Marcellus Evans, Canton, NC; her nephew, Paul Marcellus Evans, Waynesville, NC; her nieces: Terri Charlene Evans and Janice Helena Evans of Canton, NC, and Merry Carol Kilgore of Navarre, FL; and loving caregiver and sister-in-law, Audrae Fugate, Kingsport, TN.

Calling hours will be on Saturday, March 21, 2015 from noon to 1:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home Kingsport.

Services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Reverend Jack Weikel officiating.

Private graveside services will follow the funeral service.
