Wanda Jean Thomas, 80, Kingsport, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 15, 2014, at her residence following a period of declining health. Born in Hawkins County on September 14, 1933, a daughter of the late J.D. and Lena Jarvis, she lived in Kingsport most of her life. Wanda worked for the Kingsport Housing Authority and for the Department of Human Services. She also attended interior design school. Her main interest was in helping people who were less fortunate, such as the elderly and people not able to care for themselves. She liked walking and reading. Wanda was a member of Community United Methodist Church but she usually attended the Salvation Army Church because there she got to see and meet people who had needs.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Connie Givens of Rogersville and by two brothers.
Wanda is survived by her children, Ronnie Hall of Kingsport, Donna Mallory of Tacoma, Washington, Michael Hall of Mt. Carmel, TN and David Hall of Kingsport; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; three sisters; four brothers; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Joyce Hall of Kingsport.
The family will receive friends on Friday, from 6-8:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. A memorial service will follow at 8:00 p.m.
Honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth Givens, Brian Givens, Ronnie Hall, Michael Hall and David Hall.
