Warren Young Smith, MD, age 92, died January 23, 2019 at Baysmont House in Kingsport, TN. He was born on July 19, 1926 in Montgomery, Alabama to James Lee and Roxie Young Smith. Warren served in the Marines from 1944 to 1946 in the Pacific Theatre and China. He received his medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine in 1955 and practiced family medicine in Kingsport for 35 years before retiring in 1990. He was married to Mary Paul (Smith) Smith.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, his sister, Virginia Smith Harrison, and brother, James Lee Smith.
Warren is survived by his children, Kathryn Lee (Smith) McIntyre (Ron McIntyre), Margaret Alison (Smith) Gibbs (Tom Gibbs), Matthew Warren Smith (Lydia Stubblefield Smith), Stewart Young Smith, and Charles Douglas Sykes (Danielle Sykes); grandchildren, Christopher McIntyre, Steven McIntyre, Jackson Gibbs, James Gibbs, Warren Smith, Mary Frances Smith, Henry Smith, Sayge Smith, Jesse Smith, Charlie Sykes and Rachael Sykes; great-grandchild, Emma Noelle Hickson; and nieces and nephew, Amelia Harrison Brown, Jim Harrison and Shari Watt; and special family friend, Katherine Johnson.
A visitation and remembrance for Warren and Mary Paul (4/4/17) will be held at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home on Saturday, February 2, 2019 from 4-6:00 pm.
