Willa L. Cwik, 92, passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2019. She was born November 19, 1926, in Northfield, New Jersey, near Atlantic City. She graduated with a BS in Music Education from The College of NJ. A few years later, she earned her Masters Degree in Piano Performance at the same college. She then went to Rutgers University where she earned her Certification for Supervisor, Principal, and Superintendent.
She worked for the New Jersey State Department of Education in various positions, including Sussex County Superintendent, Mercer County Assistant Superintendent, and Business Superintendent for Hunterdon and Somerset Counties. After her retirement, she served as Interim Superintendent for four different school systems.
Willa was married to her husband, Thad for 54 years, until his death in 2007. They lived in retirement in South Carolina near Clemson. She moved to Kingsport, TN to be near her niece, Carol and husband Kenn Naegele. She lived in Skyland Falls, where she served for several years as president of the Condominium Association. Willa was a member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church, where she sang in the Sounds of Joy Choir, played in the bell choir, and played the piano for the Wesley Sunday School Class.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thad; her parents, Stanley and Erma Lovett; her brother, Stanley, Jr. and his wife Jean; her sister, Dorothy and her husband Daniel; and her sister Rhoda and husband Jack Gray.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews and their families.
A memorial service will be conducted Saturday (November 2, 2019) at 2:00 p.m. at First Broad Street United Methodist Church with The Rev. Randy Frye officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the memorial service.
