William "Bill" A. Boyer, 93, Kingsport, died Friday, January 2, 2009 at Holston Manor.
Born in Erwin, TN, Mr. Boyer had been a resident of Kingsport since 1948. He graduated from East Tennessee State Teachers College in 1942 and later received his Masters Degree from the University of Tennessee in 1950. Prior to coming to Kingsport, Mr. Boyer taught at Unicoi County High School. In Kingsport he taught and coached at Kingsport Junior High School and later at Ross N. Robinson until his retirement in 1980. Mr. Boyer was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving during World War II.
Mr. Boyer was a member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church and the Men's Sunday School Class. He was also past president of the Kingsport Optimist Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Al and Nannie Boyer; one sister Evelyn Ballard; and one brother, Albert Louis Boyer, Jr.
Surviving are his daughter, Deborah Anne Folk and husband Ron of Kingsport; his only granddaughter and "Joy of his life", Katie Folk of Nashville, TN; special friend, Helen Boyer of Kingsport; one sister, Dorothy Bevins of Kingsport; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to thank the staff of Holston Manor for the kind and loving care given to Mr. Boyer.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport with Rev. Jack P. Weikel officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.
It was Mr. Boyer's wish to be cremated.
