William Carmack

William Bill D. Carmack, 89, Kingsport, TN passed away at 6:05 p.m. Saturday January 12, 2008 at his home.

Bill was born in Osaka, VA, and grew up in Imboden, VA, and came to Kingsport in 1946 where he became an insurance representative for Home Beneficial. He retired in 1979 after thirty-two years in insurance. He then became a sales representative for Tennessee Electric where he worked for fifteen years.

He was a member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church. Bill was a veteran of World War II having served in the U. S. Army in the Pacific Theatre. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 3/265 and a former member of the V.F.W.

His wife, Kathleen Faust Carmack preceded him in death in February 2004.

Surviving are his daughter, Ms. Carol Phillips, Knoxville, TN; son, William Douglas Carmack Jr. and wife Birdie Carol, Cosby, TN; two grandchildren, Michael and Amy Carmack; one great-granddaughter, Madison Brie Hall; two sisters, Pearl Miller, Memphis, TN and Kathleen Seals, Big Stone Gap, VA; brother, Walter Carmack, Kingsport, TN; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport.

Services will be conducted Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at First Broad Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Jack P. Weikel officiating.

Interment will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Carmack, Hugh Penland, George Beals, Joe Morley, Charlie Neal, and Bob Northrop.
