William Donald "Don" Carr, 77, died in Kingsport on Thursday, May 24, 2012 after a stroke.
Don was born in 1935 in Sullivan County and served in the U. S. Navy. He retired in 2000 after 38 years at the Kingsport Press. Don had also served on the Church Hill Rescue Squad. He was frequently in attendance at local auctions and was an avid knife and coin trader.
Don was a member of Clouds Bend United Methodist Church and played a large role in rebuilding the church after it was destroyed by fire.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cindy Lucille Ford Carr and Austin Franklin Carr; daughters, Judy Carr Frederick and Patricia Carr; sisters, Elsie Mae Hensley, Juanita Hensley, Veeta Carr and JoAnn Carr; and brothers, Stuart "Tim" Carr, Kenneth Carr and Curtis Carr.
Don is survived by his wife of almost 58 years, Marie Allen Carr; son, Danny Carr and wife Pam of Sullivan Gardens; son, Curt Carr and wife Amy of Kingsport; son-in-law, Tim Frederick of Kingsport; brothers, Haynes Carr of Bluff City and Charles Linville Carr of Fall Branch; granddaughters, Rebecca Lewis and husband Casey, Jessica Mullins and husband Chris, Shasta Johnson and husband Toby, Brianna Peters and husband Matt, and Markita Carr; grandson, Sgt. Matthew Carr and wife Stacey of Jacksonville, NC; great-granddaughters, Paige Johnson, Jamara Hall, Kendal Lewis, Jordan Mullins and Levi Mullins; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at Clouds Bend United Methodist Church. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday with Rev. Rob Heath, Rev. Joe Hensley and Rev. Ken Peterson officiating.
Interment will follow at Lovelace Baptist Church Cemetery. Family members will serve as pallbearers.
