William Dean Smith

William Dean Smith, 48, went home to be with Jesus Sunday evening, September 25, 2016, while at Holston Valley Hospital in Kingsport TN. William had a heart transplant in 1985 at University of Birmingham Hospital, Birmingham, AL, and did well for 25 years. However the following 5 years, he had many health issues. William loved and was committed to his family. He was born October 19, 1967, in Kingsport, TN, to Mary (Smith) Wagner and the late Dean Smith. He graduated from Sullivan North High School with the class of 1986. William was a devout Christian and loved the Lord.

William was preceded in death by his father, Dean Smith; grandfathers, William "Bill" Caldwell and DV Smith; grandmother, Lura Elizabeth Smith; brother, Ronnie Smith; and sister, Terry Smith Rickman.

William is survived by his companion/partner, Rachel Carolyn Boyd of Kingsport, TN; stepdaughter, Jasmine Boyd of Kingsport, TN; parents, Connie and Mary Wagner of Kingsport, TN; brother, Robert Wagner of Knoxville, TN; nephew, Gabriel "Gabe" Wagner of Knoxville, TN; nieces, Tiffany Tallent of Monett, MO, Hannah Rickman of Purdy, MO, and Hayden Wagner of Knoxville, TN; grandmother, Dorothy Caldwell-Bass of Kingsport; and uncles, James "Jim" Caldwell of Mount Carmel, TN, and Billy Smith of Kingsport, TN.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at Kingsport First Assembly of God, Kingsport, TN. The service will follow at 2 p.m. with Pastor Paul Wright officiating.

Burial will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park in Kingsport, TN.
