William Arthur "Art" Frazier, 52, of Kingsport, died unexpectedly on Saturday afternoon October 15, 2011 at his home.
Born November 8, 1958, Art was a lifelong resident of Kingsport. In his youth Art attended First Christian Church and sang in the choir. He graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School in 1976 and received a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors from East Tennessee State University. Art started working at Good Food Grocery downtown in August 1990 and continued to work there when it became a part of Mac's Medicine in 2002 until his death. He was an exemplary employee, beloved co-worker and was conscientious and kind in his service to the public. Art was also a devoted son. For many years, when his father had Alzheimers, Art was his primary caregiver. He was attentive to his mother in all the years since.
Art was active in the Kingsport Theatre Guild, Theatre Bristol and Showboat Dinner Theatre for many years, appearing in more than 30 productions including Forever Plaid, The Foreigner, Greater Tuna, The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Sweeney Todd. He was a voracious reader and had an encyclopedic knowledge of literature, cinema and music.
He was preceded in death by his father, William E. Frazier, Jr.; paternal grandparents, William E. Frazier, Sr. and Freta Phillips Fraziers; and maternal grandparents, Robert Ligon Terry and Gradye McDonald Terry.
Survivors include his mother, Glenna Terry Frazier; brother, Richard Wayne "Rick" Frazier, bother of Kingsport; aunt, Emogene Terry Balog and cousin, Steve Terry Balog of Dayton, Ohio; and cousin, Greg Durham of Kingsport and many friends.
Visitation will be on Thursday, October 20th from 1:00-3:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson, Kingsport. Services will follow at 3:00 pm with Ed Clevinger, Minister and Phillip Sams, Minister, officiating.
