William B. "Joe" Gibson

After recently asking the Lord to come into his heart, William Boyd "Joe" Gibson passed away Thursday, March 21, 2013 at Wellmont Wilcox Hall Hospice.

The son of the late Arch and Flora Smith Gibson, he was born in Scott County, VA on July 9, 1938.

He resided in the Beech Creek Community of Hawkins County. He was retired from Kingsport Press and had previously worked in paving and operated heavy equipment. Joe spent his retirement years visiting with his friends at the stockyard, Betty's Café, and D & R Small Engines. He prided himself in helping his cattle-trading buddies with their cattle and in their hay.

Joe is preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Wanda Bernard Gibson November 2007; one daughter, Edna Wyatt; and several sisters and brothers.

Survivors include three children, Brenda Crawford and husband John of Hiltons, VA, William A. Gibson and wife Karen of Gate City, VA, and JoAnn Flanary and husband Roger of Kingsport; grandchildren, Rebecca, Andrew, Jennifer, Jessica, and Makayla; five great-grandchildren and expecting one great-grandson. Survivors also include one brother, Gary Gibson of Kingsport; brother-in-law, Rex Bernard and wife, Tricia; sisters-in-law, Carolyn B. Horne and husband Sam, and Sandra Bernard; and several nieces and nephews.

Thanks to those who visited him in the hospital and nursing home; and special thanks to the wonderfully helpful staff of the Wellmont Hospice and all Joe's medical providers.

Per Joe's wishes, there will only be a graveside service on Saturday, March 23rd at 1 p.m. at the Beech Creek Cemetery with Pastor Bobby Bernard officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Beech Creek Cemetery Fund, c/o Tricia Bernard, 3482 Beech Creek Road, Rogersville, TN 37857; or the charity of your choice.
