William Hershel Hammond Sr., 95, of Remington House was called home to be with the Lord early Thursday morning, December 11, 2008.
He was born in Scott County, Virginia, where he resided until moving to Kingsport in 1944. Hershel retired from Eastman Kodak as a Supervisor in Operations in 1974 after 41 years of service. He was a member of Colonial Heights Baptist Church. Hershel enjoyed square dancing, taxidermy work, woodworking, and gardening.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Quillen Hammond; one sister, Natalie Herron; one brother, C. M. Hammond Jr.; and a grandson, Dennis Nesaw.
Surviving are a daughter, Betty Nesaw of Daytona Beach, Florida; one son, William H. "Bill" Hammond Jr. and wife Jan of Kingsport; three grandsons, David Nesaw, Brad Hammond, and Bart Hammond; five great-grandsons; one great-granddaughter; and a special and devoted friend, Margaret Bedford.
The family will receive friends from 11:30 to 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Bob McNew and Pastor Arden Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
