William Henry Jenkins

Mr. William Henry "Bill" Jenkins, age 86, passed away on September 15, 2009. He was born in a coal-mining camp in West Virginia to Robert O. and Pauline Jenkins and grew up in Johnson City. The former manager of the Pet Dairy in Kingsport, Bill was a graduate of the US Military Academy at West Point. He served as a pilot in the Army Air Corp during its transition to the Air Force. He achieved the rank of major in the USAF. A long-time member of the First Baptist Church in Kingsport, he served as a deacon and in many other capacities. After several transfers that took him and his wife, Dot, to Virginia and New Jersey, they came back to Kingsport to enjoy their retirement.

Bill was an avid golfer, scoring 3 hole-in-ones over his lifetime. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He and Dot would have celebrated their 60th anniversary this coming December.

Bill is survived by his wife, Dorothy Anglin Jenkins; his daughters and son-in-law, Polly and Dennis Price of Atlanta, GA, and Jo Ann Grigsby-Jenkins of Kingsport; and by his grandchildren, Jacob Grigsby and Jocelyn Grigsby, both of Kingsport. He also is survived by two sisters, Jemima Milhorn and husband Glenn of Kingsport and Roberta Slagle of Johnson City; a brother, David Jenkins and wife Nancy of Atlanta, GA; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Friday at 4:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Kingsport with Dr. Marvin Cameron officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
