William "Willie" Mowdy, 99 of Blountville passed away peacefully in his sleep and went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 26, 2013. He was born April 9, 1914, in Sullivan County and was a lifelong area resident.
He was a very knowledgeable man when it came to carpentry and gardening.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 70 years Elsie Ruth Mowdy; four daughters, Carolyn, Marjorie, Faye, and Connie; three sisters, Nell, Hazel, and Ethel; four brothers, Vincent, Elmer, Simon, and Earl; and one son-in-law, Ronnie.
Willie is survived by two daughters, Sue Emmalee Gross and husband Ralph of Bristol and Burdetta Edwards of Blountville; four sons, Billy Mowdy of Blountville, Marvin Mowdy and friend, Birchie of Blountville, Danny Mowdy and wife, Linda of Kingsport, and Calvin Mowdy and wife, Sheila of Blountville; fourteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; special niece, Evelyn Ramey and special friend, Danny Henson; and several nieces and nephews.
