Ed Rowland, 80, Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 22, 2008, at Life Care Center of Gray.
He was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County having retired from the Mead following 42 years of service. Ed was a Sergeant in U. S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict. He was of the Baptist faith and a 1946 graduate of Sullivan High School.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Shirley Rowland; and his parents, Lawrence and Beulah Rowland.
Surviving are three sons, Gary Rowland and wife Cindy of Kingsport, Bill Rowland Jr. and David Rowland both of Gray; five grandchildren, Rachel, Celeste, Brandi, Taylor, and A. J.; four sisters, Dorothy Conley and husband J. D. of Jonesborough, Ruby Cody of Kingsport, Nancy Harkleroad of Kingsport, Patricia Hamilton and husband Harold of Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday at Tri-Cities Memory Gardens with Pastor Jackie Bradley officiating and military rites by Charles DeWitt Byrd Post #3382 of the V.F.W.
Family members will serve as pallbearers.
