William L. "Bill" Salyers

William L. "Bill" Salyers, 83, of Kingsport passed away Wednesday, December 3, 2014.

Bill retired from AFG after 37 years of service. He loved to hunt and fish, farming and NASCAR. Bill was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend.

He was preceded in death by his parents, J.E. and Ellen Salyers; three brothers, J.R., J.C., and Paul; and two granddaughters, Patricia and Cecilia.

Bill is survived by his wife of 60 years, Wilma Salyers, Kingsport; sons, Leonard Salyers and wife, Stacey, Kingsport, and Randy Salyers and wife, Kathy, Kingsport; one daughter, Debora and husband, Scott McKnight, Midwest City, OK; ten grandchildren, Lee, Dustin, Brittany, Rebekah, Sam, Caleb and Katelyn Salyers, Katrina McReynolds, Audrey Baker and Grace Grindstaff; nine great-grandchildren; siblings, Elsie Hite, Kingsport, Beulah Thigpen, Atlanta, Thelma Williams, Kingsport, and Don Salyers and wife, Nobeleen, Kingsport; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 pm on Thursday, December 11, 2014, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The service will follow at 7:30 pm with Rev. Jeff Strong officiating.

A military graveside service will be conducted at 11 am on Friday, December 12, 2014, at East Lawn Memorial Park. Military Rites will be conducted by American Legion Posts #3/265. Family will serve as pallbearers.
