William Shipley

William "Bill" Shipley, 86, of Fall Branch, went to meet Jesus with open arms early Tuesday morning, May 12, 2009 at the VA Mountain Home. He was born in Washington County, where he lived his entire life. He served in the Army during WWII and was a member of #3382 VFW. He was also a member of Fall Branch Baptist Church and attended Sullivan Baptist Church. Bill retired from Eastman Kodak after 42 years of service. He was a loving, caring, tender-hearted man who will be missed by his family and many friends. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, and spending time with his special little "grand-dogs". Bill was a past member of the Fall Branch Volunteer Fire Department having served on the Board of Directors.

Bill was preceded in death by his mother and father, Bruce and Kate Shipley; one sister; and four brothers.

He is survived by his loving and caring wife of 58 years, Edith Brown Shipley; a son, Billy Shipley of Fall Branch; an adopted son and friend, Robert "Pete" Peterson of Fall Branch; three sisters, Jeanette Chandler of Gray, Sue Greene and husband Burt of Rogersville, and Virginia Stillwell; one brother, Ben Shipley of Limestone; a special, loving sister-in-law, Lucille Cody and husband Elmer; several nieces and nephews; and many friends and neighbors.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Fall Branch. Friends may also visit at Bill's home, 229 Warren Street, Fall Branch. Funeral services will follow the visitation on Thursday at 8:00 p.m. with Rev. Vic Wallace, Rev. Carl Strickler, and Rev. Jeff Strong officiating.

Graveside services will be held on Friday at 2:00 p.m. at the Fall Branch Baptist Church Cemetery. Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Elmer Cody, Paul Jones, Wayne Pickens, Don Ward, Billy Fred Cutshaw, and Lowell Wampler. Military graveside services will be conducted by the American Legion Hammond Post #3/265 and the Tennessee National Guard.
