"It's Never Good Bye; Just So Long"
W.F. "Frank" Short, 99, son of David and Dolly Short, went to be with the Lord on Friday, September 9, 2011 at his home after a brief illness.
Mr. Short was born in Letcher Co., Kentucky, on December 24, 1911. After moving to Kingsport, Tennessee, he and his wife, Draxie, operated Short's Grocery and Coal Yard for several years. After living in Florida for sixteen years, they returned to Jonesborough, Tennessee, for retirement. Mr. Short was very active in Bethany Old Regular Baptist Church, Bloomingdale. He served as a Deacon and founder for Old Regular Baptist Churches in the area. Mr. Short was loved by everyone who met him-- he will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents David and Dolly; one brother, M.K. Short' one sister, Fannie Brown; two infant daughters, Wanda Joe and Evalea; one grandson, Johnny Bralley and one daughter-in-law, Dorothy Short.
Mr. Short is survived by his loving wife of 79 years, Draxie Mae; two sons, Roy K. Short and Dorothy Short deceased, Don W. and Martha Short; one daughter, Wilma Short Bralley and John, of the Jonesborough/Harmony Community. He is also survived by one brother, Lloyd Short of Ohio and one sister, Almedia Addington of Florida. He was known as Paw to 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends and family at Hamlett-Dobson, downtown Kingsport on Sunday, September 11, 2011 from 5-7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday September 12th at the Old Regular Baptist Church in Bloomingdale with Elder Ronnie Hensley and Elder Walter Rose officiating.
Final interment will follow in Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, Virginia. Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons; David Short, Larry Short, Brian Short, Dennis Robbins, Lance Huffman, Christopher Robbins and Cody Robbins; honorary pallbearers Tony Short, Phil Lowrance and John Bralley.
The family will also receive friends and family at Mr. and Mrs. Frank Short's home, 337 Wheelock Road, Jonesborough, Tennessee, at any time.
