William Eugene Smallwood

William Eugene Bill Smallwood, of Church Hill, TN, went to be with Jesus on July 9, 2011. He was born February 13, 1931, in Kingsport. He lived in Ohio for 44 years, where he worked as an electrician returning back to Church Hill after the death of his wife. He was a member of the 278th Armored Calvary serving in Iceland during the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Ernest and Flora Smallwood; wife, Marge Smallwood; half-brother, Enoch Depew; two half sisters, Edith Housewright and Velma Short; two nieces, Phyllis Cox and Judy Lawson; two nephews, Dana Short, Jr., and Steve Morrison.

Survivors include an adopted daughter, Patty Smallwood of Ohio; three sisters, Lois Weatherly Phipps of Church Hill, Ruth Morrison Kindle of Kingsport, Nancy Trent and husband, Jim of Mount Carmel; very dear friend and companion, Ruby Bernard and her family; special nephew, Raymond Cavin and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. Monday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.

Services will follow at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Mike Stout officiating.

Military Graveside Services will be held Tuesday at Morrison Cemetery, Rogersville, TN.
