William Vergil Johnson, 87, of Kingsport, went peacefully in his sleep to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 29, 2015 at his home.
Born on September 9, 1928, he was the son of the late Oren W. Johnson and Lucy Henry Johnson. W.V. served his country in the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked for TN Eastman Company and retired after 37 years. Saved as a young man at Gate City Baptist Church, and then he was a faithful, active member of Litz Manor Baptist Church in Kingsport for 52 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Lowell W. Johnson.
W.V. is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Wanda Addington Johnson; daughters, Sherry Miller and husband Rick, and Mitzi Hurd and husband Rick; grandchildren, Jessica Miller Hilliard, Christopher Miller, and inherited grandson, John Henry Hurd; and sister, Mildred J. Hall.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 11 to 1 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow with Pastor Chris Alford officiating.
A graveside service will follow at Holston View Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by American Legion Posts 3/265.
Pallbearers will be the Deacons and Men of Litz Manor Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in honor of Mr. Johnson to The Salvation Army, 505 Dale St. Kingsport, Tennessee 37660, or to Shriner's Hospital For Children, 2900 N. Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.
