W. Don Young, 61, Kingsport, TN, died Friday morning, February 22, 2008, at Wellmont Hospice House in Bristol, TN after an extended illness.
Born in Blount County, he had resided in Kingsport since 1975. Don was a 1964 graduate of Everett High School in Maryville, TN, and a 1971 graduate of the University of Tennessee.
He served as a First Lieutenant in the U. S. Army Corp of Engineers during Vietnam. Don had worked for Westmoreland Coal Company and later founded Appalachian Wellness Center in Claypool Hill, VA. He was an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman. All who knew him were touched by his courage and humor throughout his life.
His parents, Esco and Della Mae Young, brother, Lazell Chapman, and sisters, Juanita Cope and Pauline Milsaps, preceded him in death.
Surviving are his wife Cindy Young, of the home; daughter Emily Philip and husband Abe, Leesburg, VA; son Jordan Young, of the home; three sisters, Johnnie Waters and husband Milburn, Carolyn Fleming and husband Herman, and Nancy Bryson and husband Reed, all of Maryville, TN; four brothers, James Young and wife Pat, Maryville, TN; Dewey Young and wife JoAnn, Fayetteville, GA; Charles Young and wife Donna, Maryville, TN; and Larry Young and wife Kay, Knoxville, TN; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are 3-5:00 p.m. Sunday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport.
Services will follow at 5:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with Rev. Larry Young officiating.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Brigade Golfing Buddies.
