Woodrow "Woody" Smith, 91, Asbury Place of Kingsport Baysmont, died Wednesday morning, July 23, 2008, at his home.

He was born in Abingdon, Virginia, on October 30, 1916, and had lived in Kingsport since 1919. Woodrow was a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School Class of 1935 and a graduate of Chillicothe Business College in Chillicothe, Missouri. He was a chief clerk for Kingsport Grocery Company and later worked for Kingsport Power Company as an accounting supervisor retiring in 1981. Woody also managed private investments from 1942 to 1946. He served in the U. S. Army, European Theatre of Operations attaining the rank of Sergeant Major. He was a member of First Baptist Church where he had served as a Deacon, Treasurer, various committee assignments, and various assignments in the Sunday School.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Ed Solomon Smith and Bessie Pearl Doyle Smith; his wife, Reba Church Smith; a son, Dr. Ben Edward Smith, Col. Ret. USA; three sisters, Nora Comstock, Bertha Fulkerson, Audrey Copp; and one brother, Wilson M. Smith.

Surviving is a daughter-in-law, Mona F. Smith of Crofton, Maryland.

Calling hours are 5-7 p.m. Sunday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport.

Services will follow at 7:00 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Marvin Cameron officiating.

Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday at Oak Hill Memorial Park with military rites conducted by Charles DeWitt Post #3382 of the V.F.W.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Big Brother Sunday School Class.
