Zane Lamar Dawson, 84, of Fall Branch, passed away Thursday, August 25, 2011 at his home. Born in Morgantown, W. VA November 3, 1926, living his early years in Homecamp, Pa and Kingsport, TN and moving to Fall Branch, TN in 1936, living there the remainder of his life. Zane was a WW II Navy veteran serving in the Pacific Theater. He retired from Eastman in 1987 with 40 years of service. Zane was a member of Fall Branch United Methodist Church and the Fall Branch Volunteer Fire Department, being the last charter member.
He is preceded in death by his father, Charles M. Dawson, Sr.; mother, Electa Dressler Dawson; brother, Charles M. Dawson, Jr.; and sisters, Gayle Leeper and Eloise Morgan.
Zane is survived by his childhood sweetheart and loving wife of 65 years, Wilma Jean Dawson of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Keith Dawson and wife Patricia of Kingsport, Jim Dawson and wife Betty Jean of Fall Branch, and Ricky Dawson of Johnson City; two grandsons and 4 granddaughters; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m., Friday, August 26, 2011 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Fall Branch.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, August 27, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Fall Branch United Methodist Church cemetery with Rev. Barry Lane officiating. Pallbearers will be his grandsons: Lance Dawson, Jared Dawson, Phil Lawlor, Robert Rudder, Darrick Blankenship; friends, Jerry Deakins and George Moody. Honorary pallbearers will be his granddaughters, Anna Dawson, Rebecca Blankenship, Janet Lawlor, and Laura Rudder.
