Zella I. Nunley, 80, of Kingsport, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, November 2, 2012 at The Wexford House following a lengthy illness.
She was born in Washington County, TN to the late Harry Hicks and Frona Showman, but had made Kingsport her home for the past sixty-five years. Prior to her illness, Zella was a faithful member of Bloomingdale Baptist Church for many years. She was a homemaker and a wonderful mother who raised four daughters.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Paul Nunley; her brothers, John, Paul, Bobby, and Charles Herbert Hicks; and her sister, Frances Chase.
Surviving are her daughters, Beverly Carmack, Kathy Reynolds, both of Kingsport, Donna Martin and husband Ken of Knoxville, and Sheri Lewis and husband Tommy of Brentwood, TN; grandchildren, Mickey Carberry, Tony Carberry, Amy Carmack, Michael Carmack, Isaac Reynolds, and Brandon Lewis; great-grandchildren, Hunter, Emily and Ashley Carberry, and Brie Hall; brothers, J. D. Hicks and wife Rosalee of Limestone and Byrl Hicks and wife Linda of Riverside, CA whom she raised as a son; sisters, Sue Phelps and Carolyn Babb and husband Herman, all of Kingsport; sister-in-law, Charlotte Hicks of Gray; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to staff, Ryan, Brook, Linda, Jessica, Emily, Peggy and so many others at The Wexford House for taking care of our mom for the past 5 ½ years and to the Sullivan County EMS.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12 noon Monday, November 5, 2012 at Bloomingdale Baptist Church. Services will follow at 12 noon with Pastor Phil Whittemore officiating.
Interment will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Mickey Carberry, Tony Carberry, Isaac Reynolds, Tim Hicks, Daryl Hicks, and Ken Martin.
Honorary pallbearers will be Hunter Carberry and Brandon Lewis.
