Zelma Meade Godsey, 83, of Vandalia, passed away peacefully at Harborside Health Center in Troy, OH on March 30, 2008. Zelma is survived by her daughter & son-in-law, Barbara and Paul Spurgeon of Vandalia; her only granddaughter, Sarah Spurgeon, currently a student at the University of Dayton; by her son, Julian Margot Summerhill of Mill Valley, CA; her brother, Earl Emma Lou Meade of Kingsport, TN, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Zelma was born in Nickelsville, VA on April 7, 1924. She worked at Tennessee Eastman during her early adult years and then relocated to Ohio in 1952. Zelma was a member of First Baptist Church of Vandalia and it was there that she was active in the Classics group. She was a devoted caregiver, always interested in helping others and cared for many people over the years. Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 1, 2008 in Dayton, OH. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at East Lawn Memorial Park in Kingsport, TN with Rev. Mitch Whisnant officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Dayton Alzheimer's Association, 3797 Summit Glen Drive, Dayton, OH 45449 in Zelma's memory.
