Zelma Jean Newland, 74, Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 27, 2007 at Select Specialty Hospital in Bristol following a lengthy illness.
Born in Scott County, VA, she had resided in Kingsport most of her life. Mrs. Newland was of the Methodist faith.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Harold ?Dick? Newland; daughter, Theresa Palmer; parents, Omer and Eugenia Mae Gilliam; one sister, Julie Marie Floyd; and two brothers, Billy Gilliam and Rion Gilliam.
She is survived by two sons, Dickie M. Newland, Kingsport, Tim S. Newland and wife, Lisa, Church Hill; eight grandchildren, David Summitt, Danny Summitt, Jean Hilton, Dickie Shane Newland, Derrick Newland, Jessica Keene, Dustin Newland, and Cody Newland; thirteen great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ronald Gilliam and wife, Jo, and Jack Gilliam, all of Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport.
Services will be held at 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with Pastor Wrightly Salling and Pastor Larry Anderson officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery at 1:45 p.m.
Pallbearers will be David Summitt, Danny Summitt, Dickie Shane Newland, Derrick Newland, Dustin Newland, and Cody Newland.
